We are very happy to share this special issue of Bread Broken & Shared with you who are so much a part of our Eymardian Family. The issue is a celebration of our General Chapter being held in June 2017 in Mundelein, Illinois. In the lead article, Father Provincial shares with you what a General Chapter is and who will be attending this all-important international meeting. The graphics on page 1 and the centerfold were developed by our Generalate in Rome and will be used throughout the Chapter. You have a glimpse of these in our newsletter!
In addition to this article on the General Chapter, we have several more interesting and informative articles. In this issue, Father Hashendra Perera SSS shares with our readers his involvement in Hospital Ministry in New York City and how he sees this ministry closely linked to our Eucharistic charism. We all mourn the loss of one of our dear priests, Father Robert Lussier SSS. We share the funeral homily that was delivered by Father John Christman SSS during the funeral Mass and hopefully you will come to know him a little better in case you never had the joy of meeting him. Please pray for the repose of his soul.
There is a special “thank you” to our nurse, Mrs. Christine Detzel, who is retiring from her service to our aging and infirm religious. There is an interesting article by Mr. Jim Brown on our Lay Associates. Father Lane shares with you the experience that he and many young people had in the Southwest of the US and particularly on the Navajo Reservation.
On the back page of this newsletter is an invitation to join us for the Annual Triduum and Novena in honor of Saint Ann. If you can’t be there in person, please join us in prayer! Father Anthony Marshall SSS, our Vocation Director, shares an interesting article about Vocations and Educational Debt from the National Religious Vocation Conference. Father Ernest, our well-known ecumenist, writes on Ecumenism and Eucharistic Spirituality.
We hope that you find the time to read this entire issue and learn more about the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and its ministry and mission – in this way, you can walk with us in the footsteps of our holy Founder, Saint Peter Julian Eymard. July and August are important months for us – the feast of Saint Ann on July 26 and the liturgical feast of Saint Peter Julian Eymard on August 2. Join with us in prayer asking the intercession of both of these saints who are so special to the Congregation.
Whatever gift you are able to make, know it is most appreciated! Please include any special prayer intentions you would like us to remember online. These intentions are prayed for by all the priests and brothers each day. It’s our simple way of saying “THANKS” to you who have been so good to us!
