Bread Broken & Shared: Spring 2020

Posted on May 9, 2020 by Kay Vincent

We can never know enough about our Holy Founder of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament. Our own Brother Michael A. Perez, SSS, who has for years delved into the writings of our Founder and the founding of the Congregation, offers an insightful article that can assist each of us to know them more and better.

We have featured two of our parishes in this issue: Saint Joseph in Downtown San Antonio, Texas, and Corpus Christi Parish in Houston, Texas.  Father Schueller, reflects on the present situation of Saint Joseph’s and the new directions that are being taken there concerning Associates of the Congregation. Nancy MacRoberts, long-time Associate and parishioner of Corpus Christi, highlight the building revitalization that is in the process at the Houston-area parish at the moment.

The Center for Eucharistic Evangelizing is an important ministry of the Province and continues its mission of excellent eucharistic catechesis and practice in the United States.  Jim Brown, its director, shares a recent retreat and formation session that he and Father Schueller facilitated in San Antonio. Our eucharistic charism continues to move around the country!

Father Ernest continues with his contribution to Bread Broken & Shared with an article on the Living in Christ. Father Falardeau continues to keep the theme of Ecumenism before our eyes, encouraging each of us to pray and work for Christian Unity.

Scott Gongos, in his article entitled “Values Partners in  Mission,” addresses the continuing efforts to help support the religious and ministry of the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and Saint Ann’s Shrine. He encourages all of you to get involved.

In May, I will be traveling to our headquarters in Rome, Italy, for a meeting of all provincial superiors around the world called the Amplified General Council.  This meeting assesses the situation of the Congregation around the world and establishes its direction. I will have a report on that meeting in the next issue of this newsletter. Please pray for its success.

We hope that you find the time to read this entire issue and learn more about the Congregation of the Blessed Sacrament and its ministry and mission – in this way, you can walk with us in the footsteps of our holy Founder, Saint Peter Julian Eymard.

Whatever financial gift you can make, know it is most appreciated! Now you can even use your credit card to donate! Please include any special prayer requests you would like us to remember. These intentions are prayed for by all the priests and brothers each day. It’s our simple way of saying “THANKS” to you who have been so good to us!

May you have a blessed Lent, Holy Week, and Easter.  We are all united in our faith in the Eucharist!

In Jesus, Our Bread of Life!

Rev. Anthony Schueller SSS
Provincial Superior
